The McTiernay brothers will always be able to depend upon Brodie Dunstan’s loyalty, his sword, and his strength. But there is another kind of bond—one that can fell even a fearless warrior . . .

Brodie Dunstan was an honored McTiernay commander when he agreed to leave and help an allied clan. Eight years later, he’s back among the McTiernays at Lochlen Castle, yet despite the welcome, Brodie feels he’s still searching for his rightful place. The moment he rescues a storm-soaked young woman on the road to Lochlen, he wonders if he’s found it . . .

Now, caught in a compromising position with Brodie after her rescue, she’s ushered into a hasty marriage. To her surprise, Brodie is unlike any man she has ever met, with a tenderness that belies his powerful persona. Their passion deepens every day. But when Brodie learns the truth about her past—and the real reason she has come to Lochlen Castle—will there still be room for her in the Highlander’s heart?

Review
I have read all the other books in the McTierney series, and it was nice to be able to see all my favorite couples again!
Shinae when we first meet her is a nun defending her fellow sisters against an attack by the English.. She is quickly dispatching the English soldier using her two blades while the others escape.. When the fighting is over she decideds that she is going to make her way to her sister, (who we met in the last book).. However on her way her and her friend happen to get stuck in a rainstorm, lost and seperated.. Shinae is found by Brodie, who decides pretty much immediatly that he wants to take care of her… not knowing that she is fully capable of taking care of herself.
Brodie and Shinae have immediate chemistry and decide that they should marry.. which leads to the usual miscomunications and fights as they really don’t know that much about each other. It was great when they finally realized that they loved each other..
There was also a plot about needing to uncover a spy who is killing off important members of highland clans.. While Shinae is keeping an eye out for anyone acting suspicious, we don’t get a whole lot of forward movement with this story line until closer to the end of the book when her sister finally arrives.
I really enjoyed Shinaes and Brodies story, and I can’t wait to see what Michele Sinclair is going to come up with next!

A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross

Releases Feb 15 2022

A River Enchanted (Elements of Cadence, #1)
House of Earth and Blood meets The Witch’s Heart in Rebecca Ross’s brilliant first adult fantasy, set on the magical isle of Cadence where two childhood enemies must team up to discover why girls are going missing from their clan.

Jack Tamerlaine hasn’t stepped foot on Cadence in ten long years, content to study music at the mainland university. But when young girls start disappearing from the isle, Jack is summoned home to help find them. Enchantments run deep on Cadence: gossip is carried by the wind, plaid shawls can be as strong as armor, and the smallest cut of a knife can instill fathomless fear. The capricious spirits that rule the isle by fire, water, earth, and wind find mirth in the lives of the humans who call the land home. Adaira, heiress of the east and Jack’s childhood enemy, knows the spirits only answer to a bard’s music, and she hopes Jack can draw them forth by song, enticing them to return the missing girls.

As Jack and Adaira reluctantly work together, they find they make better allies than rivals as their partnership turns into something more. But with each passing song, it becomes apparent the trouble with the spirits is far more sinister than they first expected, and an older, darker secret about Cadence lurks beneath the surface, threatening to undo them all.

With unforgettable characters, a fast-paced plot, and compelling world building, A River Enchanted is a stirring story of duty, love, and the power of true partnership, and marks Rebecca Ross’s brilliant entry on the adult fantasy stage.

Review

This is the second book I have read by this author, and that one was also a 5 star read for me. In fact I think I love this one even more, and will definitely be reading Rebeca Ross’ other books. ASAP.

This story pulled me from the very first page when we meet Jack, he is reminicing about how he came to the mainland years ago. He had been sent there so he could go to school to become a bard. Now he is on his way back home, somewhere he thought he would never see again.

When Jack returns home its to find that girls have been going missing.. As there was no trace left behind the residents feel like the spirits must be behind it. Angry at them for something they have done. Jack is the only one who can help talk to them.. he must play the music that brings them forth.

He begins working with Adira, the lairds daughter and childhood nemisis. At first they are both hesitant around each other, both remembering what they were like to each other as children.. But the more time they spend together, they realize that they actually do like each other, and those feelings begin to grow into something beautiful. Not only are their feelings for each other growing but Jack begins to feel as if Cadence is once again his home.

We do follow muliple POVs and they each blend seemlessly. This book is full of twists and turns, and red herrings. When I thought it was going to go one way all of a sudden it would flip and something completely unexpected would be revealed. The characters and the relationships were all soo good. Torin and Sidra are such a great couple and I really found myself rooting for them as much as Jack and Adira.

At the end of the story our main mystery has been resolved, but we learn of something that happened in the past, that is going to definitely come into play into the next book. The ending left me both satisfied and heart broken, and I really want the next book to come out yesterday so I can see whats going to happen next!

Honey Roasted by Cleo Coyle

bk 19 in the Coffeehouse Mystery Series

Honey Roasted (A Coffeehouse Mystery Book 19) by [Cleo Coyle]

While struggling to find a romantic (and affordable) destination for her upcoming honeymoon, coffeehouse manager Clare Cosi whips up a honey of a drink made from honey-processed coffee. Clare plans to serve her outstanding new Honey-Cinnamon Latte at her spring wedding to her longtime honey, NYPD detective Mike Quinn. The culinary world is also abuzz about the amazing honey that Clare was lucky enough to source for her shop’s new latte. Produced by Madame’s old friend “Queen” Bea Hastings, the rare, prize-winning nectar from Bea’s rooftop hives commands a premium price, and top chefs compete for a chance to use it in their signature seasonal dishes.

One night, a swarm of escaped bees blanket the Village Blend’s chimney, and Clare discovers Bea’s unconscious body after she seemingly fell from her high-rise rooftop-hive setup. The police want to rule it as a tragic accident or possible attempted suicide, but Clare does not believe either theory. Like Madame, she knows this Queen would never abandon her hive. To sort out this mystery, Clare investigates a world of cutthroat chefs, culinary start-ups, and competitive urban beekeepers. But can she uncover the truth without getting stung?

Review

I havent read any other books in this series, but didn’t have any problems following along.. and in fact LOVED it so much that now have to figure out how im going to get my hands on the other 18 books..
I also love the recipes included and have every intention of making them.. I think im going to start with the blondies..

Our mystery starts when Claire is showing her employess some new coffee flavors that she has come up with, and a giant swarm of bees appears in the coffee shop. They end up calling the NYPDs bee keeping unit, (who knew that was a thing?) who comes and takes the bees somewhere where they can be safe in the middle of winter in New York.. When Claire realizes who the bees probably belongs to, she wants to go check on her, and ends up finding her unconsious and her green house completely torn up.. While the police think it was an attempted suicide, Claire knows that isn’t right and decides to invesigate with the help of her ex-husband and his mother.. whom everyone calls Madame.. (can that be my nickname?)

I thought the mystery was quite good, there are lots of twists and turns that keep you wondering which one of the suspects are the true culprit, and in the end I was surprised by who it turned out to be. I also thought that the romance/tension between Mike and Claire was evenly balanced with the mystery portion of the story.. The ending had a whole lot of action, and kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen next!

I really enjoyed everything about this book, and can’t wait to read more in this series, and by this author!!

The Violence by Delilah Dawson

releases Feb 1 2022

The Violence: A Novel by [Delilah S. Dawson]
When Chelsea Martin kisses her husband hello at the door of their perfect home, a chilled bottle of beer in hand and dinner on the table, she may look like the ideal wife, mother, and homemaker—but in fact she’s following an unwritten rulebook, carefully navigating David’s stormy moods in a desperate nightly bid to avoid catastrophe. If family time doesn’t go exactly the way David wants, bad things happen—to Chelsea, and to the couple’s seventeen-year-old daughter, Ella. Cut off from all support, controlled and manipulated for years, Chelsea has no resources and no one to turn to. Her wealthy, narcissistic mother, Patricia, would rather focus on the dust on her chandelier than acknowledge Chelsea’s bruises. After all, Patricia’s life looks perfect on the surface, too.

But the façade crumbles when a mysterious condition overtakes the nation. Known as the Violence, it causes the infected to experience sudden, explosive bursts of animalistic rage and attack anyone in their path. The ensuing chaos brings opportunity for Chelsea—and inspires a plan to liberate herself and her family once and for all.

Review

This is a story about survival.. and what lenghts you will go through to protect your family and yourself..
When a disease called the Violence that causes moments of blinding rage, usually leading to someone being beaten to death, sweeps through the nation. Chelsea realizes that this could be the perfect way to get away from her abusive husband..
However when she comes down with the Violence she knows that she also needs to keep her children safe from herself. She goes to her mother for help and ends up banished from her house without her kids.. So she sets off to find away to make some money, and get her mother to give her back her kids.
We see Chelsea grow and become someone she can be proud of. We also follow one of Chelseas daughters Ella, who is a teenager and ends up on her own trying to find her mother, and Chelseas mother Patricia who definitely wouldn’t win mother of the year, but does agree to take on her grandchildren.. Her character probably shows the most growth in this story even though Ella was my favorite character. Not only did she also have to deal with her abusive father, and watch the toll it took on her mother, she also ends up on her own trying to figure out how to take care of herself and having to figure out where her mother is and how she can find her.

This was a good thriller that kept me guessing. I had no idea where it was going to go from one moment to the next. and I was really happy with the way it ended.

Castles In Their Bones by Laura Sebastian

Releases Feb 1 2022

Castles in Their Bones by [Laura Sebastian]
A spellbinding story of three princesses and the destiny they were born for: seduction, conquest, and the crown. Immerse yourself in the first book in a new fantasy trilogy from the author of the New York Times bestselling Ash Princess series.

Empress Margaraux has had plans for her daughters since the day they were born. Princesses Sophronia, Daphne, and Beatriz will be queens. And now, age sixteen, they each must leave their homeland and marry their princes.

Beautiful, smart, and demure, the triplets appear to be the perfect brides—because Margaraux knows there is one common truth: everyone underestimates a girl. Which is a grave mistake. Sophronia, Daphne, and Beatriz are no innocents. They have been trained since birth in the arts of deception, seduction, and violence with a singular goal—to bring down monarchies— and their marriages are merely the first stage of their mother’s grand vision: to one day reign over the entire continent of Vesteria.

The princesses have spent their lives preparing, and now they are ready, each with her own secret skill, and each with a single wish, pulled from the stars. Only, the stars have their own plans—and their mother hasn’t told them all of hers.

Life abroad is a test. Will their loyalties stay true? Or will they learn that they can’t trust anyone—not even each other?

Review

The triplets have been raised since birth to marry, and use those marriages to orchastrate the downfall of the kingdoms. All so their mother can rule over it all. The book started off a bit slow for me, in the beginning we are getting alot of the girls arriving at their new homes, and putting the starts of their plans in motion. Sophie, Triz, and Daphne are learning how to navigate the new kingdoms. Even though they had been raised since birth to do what they are doing there were some surprising moments that happen early on that throw a wrench in some of the long term plans. Thankfully all of our sisters are resourceful and do what they can to roll with it.
I have to say I wasn’t prepared to like all of their prospective husbands. I thought their would be at least one dud or horrible one in the mix, but I loved all three of them and hope that we get so much more of them in the next book.
This book was full of twist and turns and about at the 60 -70% mark things really take off. It becomes nonstop action and planning, also a whole lot of our main characters getting themselves in some seriously troubling situations. Then theres that ending… first we get the the last time we see the sisters, which was one jaw dropping cliff hanger. Then we get a chapter from their moms viewpoint, it explains a lot, but also not nearly enough. I am very excited to see where the next book is going to go, and how on earth Triz, Daphne, and Sophie are going to get out of their current circumstances and (finger crossed) all come together and figure out how to take down their mother.

Review

I really enjoyed reading this sequel to Seven Devils.and I so happy that I preordered this one from Watersones. I can't wait to add it to my collection!
So in Seven Devils I really liked that we get to learn more about our amazing crew, We learn about their past and what led them to where they ended up today.

Seven Mercies ties up all the loose ends left over from the last book, and is action packed from beginning to end. We follow our Devils as they are seperating to complete their own missions that hopefully will help them figure out how to help the Garule.. Those people that the One has turned into mindless workers that will follow any and all commands they are given..

While I loved all of the characters that we follow I think my favorites would have to be Eris and Ariadne.. Eris is is still grappling with what happened to her at the end of the last book. Trying to come up with a plan that will take down her brother and the One.. Ariadne while super smart, is still a child at heart, and she really brings a new fresh perspective to whats going on around her.

The whole book was pretty fast paced, with loads of action and fighting. Even during the down time when our crew is planning things out, are still full of tension with the full scope of what they are trying to accomplish.

Also while it didn't exactly end they way I thought it would (you'll see what I mean when you read it) I really liked out it ended and the story was wrapped up.. Everything wasn't just done and fixed, this is just the beginning of a new world, and our favorite crew is up to the challenge.

Savage Road by Christing Feehan

Bk 7 In the Torpedo Ink Series

When Savin “Savage” Pajari and Seychelle Dubois first met, their connection was instant, their attraction undeniable. Their relationship has been full throttle since day one.  Even though months have passed, the passion and love between them has only increased.

Savage completely owns what he is: a sadist in the bedroom who can only get off on his partner’s pain. He believes he’s not a good man, but he loves Seychelle with a fierceness that shocks him. He wants all of her, but only if she gives herself freely with eyes wide open.

Seychelle never imagined the lure of mixing pain with pleasure, or how much she’d crave Savage’s darkness. She’s been shaken to her core, but Seychelle is committed to Savage and their life together—even though he’s keeping a piece of himself back. And to truly make their relationship work, he has to give her everything that he is, just as she is doing for him.

Savage knows that what he really needs could break his woman if she isn’t ready. She agreed to come into his world, and he’s not about to give her up. He has to find a way to let her see the monster inside without pushing her away. But the real Savage might be more than Seychelle can bear…and he knows he wouldn’t survive losing her.

Exerpt:

Excerpt from SAVAGE ROAD by Christine Feehan

Seychelle turned her head toward Savage, her thick braid moving across the pillow as she looked over her shoulder at him. Light came through the open window. She refused to close the damn thing, no matter what he said about security. She liked it open, and he liked the way the moonlight managed to shine perfectly on her.
Laughter was in her eyes, that totally relaxed look she got on her face whenever they were here in her home—her little cottage by the sea she loved so much. He had tried to re-create a space on the bed in his master bedroom just like hers, but he’d failed. She still wasn’t as relaxed, all tension gone, ready to tease him and play like they had for months before they made their relationship official, not in his master bedroom.
In retaliation, he nipped her hip and then soothed the sting with his tongue. “I’ve been a fucking choirboy for an entire day.” That laughter was killing him. He loved the sound of it.
“You can’t say choirboy and fuck in the same sentence and be a choirboy.”
She sounded all prim and schoolmarmy, which made him smile. His first reaction was to roll over so she was sprawled over the top of him and he had access to her bottom. That was his usual response when she teased him like this, but he didn’t want any bruising, not when he’d made up his mind to ease up and give her a few days to adjust. He would always be a controlling bastard, wanting everything his way, and maybe taking one thing at a time was the best way to go.
“Babe, told you I was going to hell. Might as well do anything I want. And that’s mild in comparison to all the things I think about saying and doing.”
Her laughter was contagious. “You should have seen your face last night when the Red Hat ladies showed up at the bar to hear me sing. All those darling ladies, Zyah’s grandmother leading the way. She’s so cute, by the way. I adore her and she adores you. Obviously, the two of you have a past, and she made it clear last night that you, Destroyer, Maestro and Player are her little darlings.”
“You’re going to get yourself in trouble if you bring that up,” he growled against her pristine skin, settling his teeth against her in warning.
She didn’t pay him heed in the least. “Who knew you were so popular, Savage? All those sparkly hats and all of them wanting to dance with you. I had more requests for songs. The other bikers in the bar last night were quite enthusiastic about making certain the right music was requested. Everyone had ideas. I even saw Jackson and Jonas slip in. They were grinning from ear to ear, and at first it looked as if they might have been there on official business.”
That did it. At the mention of the cops, there was no way he was going to be a saint. Savage rolled and took her with him, so that she sprawled over the top of him, her sore, bare ass in the air, legs on either side of his hips. Her amazing blue eyes laughed right down into his, causing his heart to perform some silly, weird melting sensation. He rubbed her bottom, hoping she would consider that a threat.
“You didn’t tell me I had so many rivals for your affection. I went into that blind. All those ladies giggling. They brought cookies, Savage. There were plates of cookies with your name on them.”
If a man like him had the ability to blush, he might actually have done it when the Red Hat ladies marched in with their crazy purple-and-red hats and their wild clothing, as if each had tried to outdo the others in outlandish skirts and layered dusters. Secretly, he applauded them for their carefree apparel and their insistence on living out their lives the way they chose. If they wanted to go to a biker bar dressed as a cross between fairy godmothers and something out of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, more power to them.
Ten of the Red Hat women had shown up, all bearing plates of cookies. And then Zyah, Player’s wife. She had come along to keep an eye on her grandmother. Anat Gamal, her grandmother, had unofficially adopted all of Torpedo Ink as her grandchildren. Savage wasn’t going to admit to his woman that he might really be one of the favorites, because she would give him no end of grief over it. She was already far too amused over how the evening had played out.
“I shared the cookies with you, you little monster,” he pointed out. He kissed the hollow of her neck. She always smelled so good—a wild strawberry fragrance that was just so subtle.

Review

I have not read the previous book in this series following Savage and Seychelle. So while the author did do a good job of catching us up to some of the things that happened I did find myself a little lost at times, so I would definitely recommend reading that one first.

Seychelle is trying to come to terms with the man she is in love with. She knows that his club comes first, and that they do some dangerous things that could put him in danger. All she wants is to be an equal partner in their relationship. However Savage is worried that if she truley knew who he is, and what happened in his life to make him the way he is, that she will leave him.

Over the course of the story we get alot of Seychelle trying to make sure her and Savage can have a true partnership. He constantly wants to hide what he does for the Club, and uses that as an excuse.. Its Club business so it can’t be discussed. This leaves Seychelle with the feeling that she will always come second.. and that when the club does let her come around its only so they can use her and her abilities. she can do different things with her voice, like keep people calm, along with some other abilities. Now both of them are trying to figure out how to make their relationship work. How to balance what they want and need from each other with what Savage needs to be to help the club..

The whole Torpedo Ink series is definitely darker and grittier than any of Christine Feehans other series that I have read. So if you like literal tortured heros finding love , and dont mind the constant.. im not sure if it would be considered BDSM or not. then you should check this series out. Most of them can be read as standalones but I would definitely read Annihilation Road first.

Review

I really enjoyed this story! It reminded me of one of my favorites types of paranormal ghosty movies.. Where a group of paranormal investigators are going somewhere thats super haunted in order to make a movie and make it big.. Only in this one the group is trying to make it big on youtube. The psychic tells the group that bad things will happen but of course no one listens.. the views/movie are way to important and besides they will all be looking out for each other so it will all be okay. I was sucked in from the very begining and read it in one sitting.

Chrissy can see ghosts, she has been able to do this since she was a little girl.. She has always felt alone with this weird ability, until she is paired with Chase for a project in school.. He knew something was up with her, and when he realized that in photos there were orbs and lights.. He loves paranormal tv shows and knew thats a sign of ghosts, when she revealed the truth to him a friendship and a youtube channel were born..

This Halloween Chrissy, Chase, Emma and Kiki are going to a Hostel/Hotel in LA.. Lots of people have died here, but they are going to specifically see if they can find out what happened to a young woman who was found at the bottom of an elevator shaft..

As soon as they arrive at the hotel Chrissy can feel that the Hotel is alive, just waiting for them to come inside. Almost from the first moment they walk in the doors she can see who has died there.. The dead are everywhere and only she can see what they are doing..This definitely makes this extra spooky.. I loved the amosphere of the haunted hotel, and all the crazy things that had happened there in the past..

I really loved the Ghost Gang, and would love to see them in another book, going to another super haunted location trying to figure out how someone mysteriously died.

Electric Idol by Katee Roberts

released Jan 18 2022

Bk 2 in the Dark Olympus series

Electric Idol: A Deliciously Forbidden Modern Retelling of Psyche and Eros (Dark Olympus Book 2) by [Katee Robert]
He was the most beautiful man in Olympus.
And if I wasn’t careful, he was going to be my death.

*A scorchingly hot modern retelling of Psyche and Eros that’s as sinful as it is sweet.*
In the ultra-modern city of Olympus, there’s always a price to pay. Psyche Dimitriou knew she’d have to face Aphrodite’s jealous rage eventually, but she never expected her literal heart to be at stake…or for Aphrodite’s gorgeous son to be the one ordered to strike the killing blow.
Eros has no problem shedding blood. Raised to be his mother’s knife in the dark, he’s been conditioned to accept that he’s more monster than man. But when it comes time to take out his latest target…he can’t do it. Confused by his reaction to Psyche’s unexpected kindness, he does the only thing he can think of to keep her safe: he binds her to him, body and soul.
Psyche didn’t expect to find herself married to the glittering city’s most dangerous killer, but something about Eros wakens a fire inside her she’s never felt before. As lines blur and loyalties shift, Psyche realizes Eros might take her heart after all…and she’s not sure she can survive the loss.

Review

Electric Idol follows Eros and Psyche… I really love how Katee Robert has decided to retell these Greek Myths!
Eros is the boogeyman, the fixer.. whomever Aprodite needs delt with Eros gets the job done. Psyche blends in and plays the game of the perfect olympian.. at least to the public.

Psyche has done something to anger Aphrodite.. or at least her mother Demeter has. Now Aphrodite wants nothing more that for Psyches heart to be delievered to her, so she sends her son Eros to get the job done.
However just this once, he doens’t want to do what his mother says.. so he comes up with the idea of marrying Psyche.. Its the only way he can see to keep her safe from his mother.. and if they happen to have some sexy fun times than all the better… Marriage of convience is one of my favorite tropes and it was done so well in this book!

As they get closer they begin to realize that there is more to each other than they both realize, and in trying to make the world believe that they are in love… they are actually falling for each other..

I love how Psyche loves Eros despite the life he lived as his mothers fixer. and that Eros gets to see the real Psyche who no one but her family has ever known before..

This is a great sequel to Neon Gods and I can’t wait for more!!
I hope we get a book following Callisto and Eurydice. Especially with what we find out happens to one of them in this story!!

Released Jan 17 2022

The Dying Game: A totally gripping crime and mystery thriller (Detective Mackenzie Price Book 4) by [Ruhi Choudhary]
As the doors of the elevator were forced open, Mack’s worst fears were confirmed. A delicate hand dangled at the top, peeking out from above the elevator. From the shape and size and the green color on the nails, the hand belonged to a woman. Had they found Mia?

Lakemore, Washington. When Mia Gallagher is reported missing after an apparent abduction, Detective Mackenzie Price is immediately called in to investigate. But as she begins to scour CCTV footage of her last known movements, Mia’s body is discovered in an elevator shaft.

DNA evidence points to a troubled local man from the wrong side of town. But before he can be questioned, his body is found alongside a suicide note with the words: I killed her. I didn’t want to. But I had no choice.

The case appears closed until another woman goes missing and 48 hours later is found dead. The only link between the victims is a connection to Baron Wildman, one of the most powerful men in Lakemore but there is no hard evidence connecting him to their deaths.

When a local man confesses to the second killing, his M.O. is eerily similar to the first: kill or be killed. Then a third woman disappears and Mack knows she has just forty-eight hours to discover who lies at the heart of the blackmailing ring and find her victim alive.

Soon it becomes clear that this twisted killer will go to any lengths to protect a decades-old secret and wreak their revenge, even if that means hurting those closest to Mack. Can she unravel who lies at the heart of this deadly game before she loses another person she loves?

A pulse-pounding thriller packed with twists, The Dying Game will have you reading late into the night. Perfect for fans of Lisa Regan, Karin Slaughter and Robert Dugoni.

Review

This is the first book that I have read in this series, and was able to follow along just fine.. although after reading this one Im definitely interested in going back and reading the other 3 books and learning more about our Detective Mackenzie.
In this book Detectives Mackenzie and Nick are working on the case of a missing woman. This case ends up linked to other missing woman and a cold case thats 20 years old, and wow did it keep me on the edge of my seat watching Mackenzie and Nick try and put the pieces together.. . There are so many twists and turns during this book that you have no idea where its going to lead until the very end.. and while I was able to predict who the bad guy was, the motivations behind it were a complete surprise.. I read it in one sitting, and I can’t wait to read more books by this author and read the rest of the books in this series.
