The following review may contain a spoiler or two or at least a very strong hint, as I included something from an episode of Doctor Who that I feel explains exactly what I felt was going on once I reached a certain point in the book…. as it’s my thoughts directly after finishing the book at 2am.
So I started this book at 10:30 last night thinking I would read a few chapters and finish it the next day… Time passes… I was completely sucked in from the first page. Multiple storylines are perfectly woven together and the backdrop of a completely spooky wilderness where things disappear and change at an alarming rate. Ones that make a person think did I just see what I think I did? No, I’m sure I didn’t… must that be those mushrooms I didn’t eat… Rationalizing until one of the people you are with says they saw it too and you start questioning reality.
I turn to the last page and think WHERE IS THE REST!?! before remembering that when I looked this book up on GoodReads it said Briardark #1. GRR… I look up at the clock and it’s 1:47 am and I’m already thinking of reading this book again. I tried to sleep but all these thoughts were running through my brain and I just had to put this rambly mess down on paper.
SA Haridan has put a cliffhanger in the most diabolic spot, and I will absolutely be reading the next book, or all the books if there are more. I must know what Siena and how she and Holden are connected… how everything is connected in this big ball of timey-wimey stuff that I must see unraveled. or at least how everything was wound up, to begin with.. also I have so many questions. How are Holden and Siena connected? What is going on in the Deadswitch Wilderness? Will any of our other intrepid adventurers make it out? Will we figure out what happened to the other group that went missing?
How will I wait until the next book comes out!?!
SYNOPSIS
For Dr. Siena Dupont and her ambitious team, the Alpenglow glacier expedition is a career-defining opportunity. But thirty miles into the desolate Deadswitch Wilderness, they discover a missing hiker dangling from a tree, and their satellite phone fails to call out.
Then the body vanishes without a trace.
The disappearance isn’t the only chilling anomaly. Siena’s map no longer aligns with the trail. The glacier they were supposed to study has inexplicably melted. Strange foliage overruns the mountainside, and a tunnel within a tree hollow lures Siena to a hidden cabin, and a stranger with a sinister message…
Holden Sharpe’s IT job offers little distraction from his wasted potential until he stumbles upon a decommissioned hard drive and an old audio file. Trapped on a mountain, Dr. Siena Dupont recounts an expedition in chaos and the bloody death of a colleague.
Entranced by the mystery, Holden searches for answers to Siena’s fate. But he is unprepared for the truth that will draw him to the outskirts of Deadswitch Wilderness—a place teeming with unfathomable nightmares and impossibilities.
